The Balobi Group includes various vessel owning subsidiaries, joint ventures and associates. Achieving optimum catch yields begins with securing the best skippers and crew that are professionally trained by the group training company, Port St Francis Training Academy (Pty) Ltd.

The Group ensures that skills are continually developed on all levels by providing internal and outsourced training. In order to maintain uninterrupted production at sea our vessels are maintained by our own fully trained maintenance team. Our emphasis is on capturing and preserving exceptionally fresh products which are produced to the highest specification.

Our vessels are relatively small, thus ensuring regular load drops which in turn guarantee sea fresh quality.

Ice Plant

The Group produces and supplies fresh, clean flake ice to our own purse sein and long line vessels and for production in the processing facility. We use an effective and simple, temperature controlled, hormone free technique to ensure quality is preserved.

The water used for ice production is tested regularly in the laboratory to ensure it measures up to the highest standard.

Blast freezing, packing, processing and storage

The Balobi facility is custom designed to meet all our production needs and includes specialized blast freezing capacity of 40 MT per day as well as the capacity to generate electricity if required.

Our blast freezers, packing and processing facility and cold storage holding room are situated in one location on the quayside at Port St Francis.

In this way we are able to prevent unnecessary handling and transportation of our products that may have an effect on quality.

Regular inspections are carried out by various National Authorities at one location that is under 100% control of our key people.

The factory operates at flexible hours throughout the 24 hour cycle to ensure that production commences as soon as the raw product arrives at the quayside so that quality is controlled and preserved at all times.

Many of our key members of staff have remained with us for decades. Due to this, our continued efforts to deliver quality have been assured and this has had a positive impact on our market.

Weekly Fish Market:

As a service to our local community we have now opened up a weekly fish market so that our village and surrounding areas may benefit from the local produce that we catch. This is in response to requests made from people living in our area and has proved to be a popular addition to our usual services. We are keeping in contact with our customer by means of a weekly update as to what will be available at the shop each week.
